This was a baby smash cake I did last summer but in my rush to get it delivered I didn't get a picture of it. My friend who does these photo shoots sent me this one she took that day. I forgot how cute this cake was! Her pictures of it are great too, wish I was a photographer and could make my cakes look so awesome :) I have 2 more baby smash cakes to do next week, should be fun :)

Pirate Cake
This cake was for another baby 1 year old photo shoot, where the baby smashes into the cake and eats it. These cakes are very small, about 4 inches diameter and about 3 inches tall. (Hard to tell dimensions in picture). This was the first baby smash cake for a boy that I've done. It was fun. A lot of work just to get smashed, but I couldn't go half way :)
(BTW if you google "Pirate Cake" and look at photos you will see many similar versions of this design. I don't know who is the original brain behind it but it has been duplicated in many kitchens, including mine now, lol! I wasn't feeling too creative this time and needed some help, thank you to whoever dreamed up this cute cake design that I pretty much copied :)

2 Girly Birthday Cakes
Fun cakes to make, and I love how they turned out. The colors are a little off in the picture for some reason but you get the idea. The big one was for a little girl turning 7, and the little one is for a wonderful girl turning 15 who is gluten and dairy free. That was an experience, a first for me but she said it tasted wonderful!

Legend of Zelda Cake
I learned from doing this cake that working with gumpaste is A LOT easier than working with fondant for cutting out detailed images. You can roll it out thinner, cut it cleaner, and it dries harder. Actually I learned that from the monkey cake but had forgotten and tried to cut out the gray detailing around the shield from my homemade fondant and was about to tear my hair out trying to make it look nice. (I technically didn't use gumpaste, I added Tylose Powder to my fondant so that it would turn into gum paste. It works great though! Details :)
I also tried something new with this cake. I frosted it in ganache instead of buttercream under my fondant. I have heard that ganache is what they primarily use under fondant in Australia and England, so I finally tried it. I. LOVE. IT!! Oh my goodness, all the annoying issues I have with buttercream suddenly vanished and I had a perfectly smooth and flawless cake under the fondant and as a result the fondant was perfectly smooth and flawless. And it didn't get way too soft and melt and bulge under the fondant in this 100 degree weather like buttercream does. And one more perk, it tasted yummy and my heart didn't go into crazy palpitations from too much sugar when I ate a piece. AHHHH Loved it!!

Little Monkey Cake
This cake was to celebrate the kids who have summer birthdays in a 1st grade class. The teacher had a monkey theme throughout the year. I love this monkey, he turned out so cute!
The summer birthday kids!
